Information for Parents of Juniors and Teens
Information for Parents of JuniorsUsing innovative methods and just the right amount of fun, we teach our young students life skills and physical skills that will benefit them now and as they grow into adults. We emphasize non-violent conflict resolution and teach children to recognize and avoid lures and threats. But for those rare instances where they may need to defend themselves, our curriculum combines the most practical and effective self defense techniques from a variety of martial arts disciplines. While we emphasize character development, our curriculum is designed to ensure that children are prepared, mentally and physically, to neutralize physical threats.
Working with child development specialists and experts in child education, our teaching methods have been designed to ensure that children learn quickly and retain what they learn. We understand that younger students have a shorter attention span. Our methods help children explore and understand conflict through role-play and other exercises.
And finally, we recognize that in pre-teen years, peers become more and more influential. As a result of our emphasis on character development, parents regularly tell us that the children in our program are the kind of kids they want their kids to have as friends.
Benefits Children Receive From Our Junior Program
Children in our Junior program learn practical and effective self defense, and develop powerful mental attributes as well.
Courage
Our students discover that they’re capable of much more than they thought possible. They develop the courage to take on challenges that might have intimated them before. They learn this in their martial arts training, and they apply it at school and at home. As they proceed through our program, they learn to face their fears and go forward in spite of them.
Perseverance
Students learn not to give up, even when the going gets tough. Even if at first they fail, they learn to persevere. Through regular conditioning, students also increase their physical stamina. They come to realize the physical stamina and mental perseverance go hand in hand. They learn not to let self-doubts get in their way and they strive harder and longer to reach their goals.
Improved Focus
Most children are easily distracted and have relatively short attention spans. Our students learn to "zero in" on critical tasks at hand and develop the ability to stay on task. Normal childhood distractions don't get in their way. They learn to make eye contact with classroom teachers and pay full attention to what their teacher says.
Power Through Self-Control and Self-Discipline
As they develop the ability to maintain focus, our students learn to develop self-control. In learning the precision of our physical skills, children develop a high level of self discipline. These attributes combine to produce very high levels of competence. Students demonstrate high levels of effectiveness on the mat, and in school.
Respect
From the moment you walk into our school, you and your children will be treated with respect. Children quickly learn that for one to get respect, one must first give respect. As our instructors model respect, children quickly learn to emulate this. It soon becomes a habit and respect becomes automatic.
Goal Setting
Learning how to set and achieve goals is one of the keys to success in life. Through the belt rank system, our students learn how to set appropriate goals and how to stay focused to achieve their goals. As students earn progressively higher belt ranks, these lessons are reinforced. When they ultimately earn their Black Belt, the lesson of setting and achieving goals is engrained for life.
Self-Defense
Let there be no doubt – Children in our Junior program learn practical and powerful martial arts skills. In every class at every level children learn, practice and refine highly effective self defense techniques.
Black Belt excellence
Our goal is to help every student earn their Black Belt not only in martial arts, but in life. As students advance in our program, we continually emphasize the qualities of Black Belt excellence: respect, courage, self control, self discipline and commitment. Children that develop these skills today become the leaders of tomorrow.
Information to Parents of Teens
During the teenage years, your children will be subjected to a wide range of influences, not all of them good. And as they grow through their teen years, the difference between good decisions and bad ones takes on much greater significance. In today’s world, with teenagers encountering life’s crossroads daily, it’s vital that they have positive peer relationships and positive role models in addition to you and their classroom teachers.
In our TaeKwonDo and Hapkido classes teens are treated like adults and expected to behave with maturity and professionalism. But this is not to say that classes aren’t fun. Teens are highly encouraged to enjoy their training. Getting a great workout, advancing though ranks, and having a lot of fun in the process is a great release from the stresses of school and teenage life. Instructors balance serious training with a lighthearted side. Our teens enjoy themselves when they’re here and they look forward to returning when they’re at home or at school.
