World Hapkido Self-Defense
Easy to Learn, Simple to Execute!  Street Self Defense that really works!

The World Hapkido Association is

the world's most recognized Hapkido organization established to promote traditional Korean Hapkido and to assist all Hapkido practitioners and enthusiasts around the globe.

The goal of Hapkido training is (1) to help you identify and avoid potentially dangerous situations, and (2) to get you out of a dangerous situation as quickly and effectively as possible while using a level of force that is appropriate to the situation.

Hapkido is the most comprehensive system of self-defense and fighting techniques of all martial arts. The Hapkido system we teach is a well-rounded system that integrates defenses for all four combative ranges: (1) Long Range (kicking), (2) Middle Range (punching), (3) Close Range (trapping, joint locking, and takedowns) and (4) On the Ground (ground grappling).

Hapkido is reality based training for the modern street fight and practical self- defense. We teach the complete World Hapkido curriculum as well as essential techniques and principles from a variety of other Martial Arts styles which provide our students with a well-balanced, "street smart" self-defense system. Most other styles of martial arts tend to focus on individual areas of self-defense. Combining the best of many styles into a blended system gives World Hapkido students the ability to protect themselves in virtually any situation.

Our primary philosophy is that a student defending himself should do whatever is necessary, regardless of the origin of the techniques used. Our system is open to techniques from any source that will help our students better defend themselves. We absorb what is useful from many different systems. Therefore, our system is constantly evolving and is not a static system.

No matter your age, Strength, Conditioning, and Flexibility are all benefits that a student can expect to receive with Hapkido training. Every muscle group is strengthened and defined with the exercises, movements, techniques, and training drills that are incorporated into our program. Your endurance and stamina will peak as we increase your cardiovascular conditioning. All these physical benefits on your body will be felt in your daily life and activities, increasing your energy and confidence.

Hapkido physical benefits are matched by equally powerful mental advantages. The indomitable spirit of the committed martial artist pays huge dividends in the business world. Professionals from all walks of life recognize that strengthening their focus and perseverance gives them a huge competitive edge

The benefits of martial arts extend to parenting as well. Understanding and modeling respect and self-discipline helps children develop these attributes. And parents that benefit from the mental balance of the martial arts mindset are better equipped to deal with the challenges and stress that come with raising even the best of children.

Get in the best shape of your life, by working out with a purpose. Take control of your mind, body and emotions. Never be a victim, physically or emotionally. Learn highly effective and powerful self-defense skills in a fun, friendly environment.

The Method of Hapkido

The method of Hapkido is to take advantage of the opponent's force so the smaller, weaker person can defeat a larger, stronger attacker through the use of leverage, vital strikes, joint locks and throws.

Universal Theories Of Hapkido
The 3 universal theories of Hapkido are:

  The Water Principle (Yu)
  The Circular Motion Principle (Won)
The Nonresistance (or Harmony) Principle (Hwa)

The Water Principle (Yu) teaches the student to penetrate the defenses of the attacker by "flowing" in, over, around and under.

The Circular Motion Principle (Won) teaches the student how to gain and impart momentum by moving in a circular manner. By redirecting the attack in a circular direction the student controls the balance and the kinetic energy of the attacker.

The Nonresistance (or Harmony) Principle (Hwa) teaches the student to remain relaxed, flexible (not tense) and not to meet force with force.

These 3 theories are explained and demonstrated at length during training. The student must truly understand them as they are the foundations on which not only the structure and essence of Hapkido rest but also all its other concepts and technical aspects.
